As a mentor, I think I will be effective because I will be able to understand the athlete as a person first, and build them up as a player from that foundation.

My job will be to pinpoint tailored feedback for each player. I think setting tailored goals for each athlete and holding them accountable will go a long way. Clear and precise communication will be key.

As an Officer in the Army, I was exposed to a wide demographic of soldiers, each requiring tailored leadership. I believe I can help high school athletes reach their goals on the field and become leaders in their personal lives off the field.

Accountability is a significant part of being a member of any team, and it gets the best out of everyone involved. I would like to pass on the mindset I've developed as a soldier and professional baseball player to young athletes. Nothing was handed to me in my career. I was a walk-on at West Point, and I eventually became a captain my senior year. On the professional side, I made it to Double-A as a free agent signing.

I believe I can share my resilience and dedication to the young players in the Baseball IQ mentor program.

I think High School athletes miss vital character development brought about by coaches with advanced playing experience. The kind of teammate you are matters, and I think that is lost in many high school players. Ultimately, growth in on-field skill can only be nurtured through emotional intelligence and work ethic. Both areas of growth take time and dedication to facilitate high levels of growth.
