I prefer hard and fair as a coaching style because I think it gets you ready for the real world the best.
In the beginning stages of learning/trying something new I want to give the athlete a ton of grace and know that this game is extremely tough and it won’t happen overnight.
But as lessons/practices/ training sessions go on, I want to push and challenge the athletes. I also want to rid the athlete of any “woe is me” attitude, which I believe to be the single biggest separator at all levels. Someone who has a woe is me mentality will give up, not give 100%, and make a plethora of excuses, which does not fly with me and won’t fly with any winner for that matter.
I think my coaching style will help the athletes overcome any adversity that comes their way and hopefully they’ll learn how to face the challenges head on and also to give their troubles, worries, anxieties to the Lord.
