Coach K on MJ's Leadership

Whether you are the first name in the lineup card or the last, treat everyone in your life with the same level of respect.

MJ is the best to ever do it and yet he treated a young Coach K as if he were the most import man in the room

When was the last time you shook your coach's hand and thanked him after a game? When was the last time you said “Please can you work with me on X,Y,Z?” Being polite takes very little effort, yet leaves a lasting impact and influence on the people around you.

Two Thoughts:

  1. If I asked your current coach or boss, 10 years from now, “what kind of person was ___?” What would their answer be? Strive daily to be the kind of player that doesn’t get remembered for skill alone but more for the character you showcased and the class you possessed. How do you want to be remembered?

  2. After your next practice, go up to your coaches, look them in the eyes, and say “thank you”. We don’t do this enough, but it is a great first step to start building your identity as a world-class teammate.
