Swanson's Mental Adjustments
Jul 19, 20241. Step in w/ Presence
2. Don't Overthink & Miss Your Pitch
3. Remind Yourself How Good You Are
Dansby is having a tough year. He's hitting .212 and clearly struggling to find the right headspace out on the field. This video is so cool and important in so many ways. First, we see how human these guys are. They doubt themselves just like we doubt ourselves every day.
Making it to the MLB doesn't change the fact that this game messes with your head more than most. It's a constant battle of You vs. You.
These three adjustments are so powerful for all players of all ages.
1. If you don't step in the box knowing you are going to do damage, then you won't. You have to command the situation, and that starts with self-talk and belief. "I'm the best." That mentality is vital to winning the battles between the pitches fought in our mind.
2. If you go up there trying to be perfect or trying to think about strategy or not making mistakes, you will miss the one opportunity you get, per at-bat, to make a difference. You have to go up on the front foot, ready to attack. "I'm swinging until I'm not." Don't overthink it - it's a game.
3. YOU have to believe in your greatness. Think back to your best moment on the field and remind yourself how good you are at this game. It's still there - you haven't lost it. You just have to believe it. "You are who you are." I love that mentality.
